Prof. Francois Mathey Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Zhengzhou University

On September 22, 2005, Prof. Francois Mathey, the academician of French Academy of Science and Professor of University of California, USA, visited Zhengzhou University on a tour of investigation and intended to work here on the recommendation of Prof. Zhao Yufen and Prof. Wu Yangjie, ZZU’s academicians. During his one-week stay here, Jia Lianchao, Vice-Governor of Henan Provincial Government met with Prof. Francois Mathey in the Distinguished Guests’ Hall and held a reception after that. Present were Jiang Duyun, head of Educational Department of Henan Province, Zhao Guocheng, head of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Henan Province, and Shen Cahngyu , President of Zhengzhou University .


Prof. Francois Mathey once chaired Chemical Society of France and at present is a member of Britain Royal Society of Chemistry and American Chemical Society, distinguished researcher of the Center of Scientific Research in France. As a world renowned chemist, he is famous for his study in organic phosphorus chemistry and chemistry of conductive metals.


Prof. Francois Mathey was given the title of Honorary Professor of Zhengzhou University. After detailed talks, the two sides agreed and signed a memorandum about inviting Prof. Mathey to work in ZZU for cooperation and exchanges in scientific research and training of highly qualified personnel. Present at the signing ceremony were Xu Zhenlu, Zheng Yuling and Song Maoping ,Vice-Presidents of ZZU, as well as the heads of Personnel Office, Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, and Chemical Department . Prof. Francois Mathey visited the laboratories of Chemical Department, and talked with and gave lectures to students and teachers there. In order to get used to the teaching environment in ZZU, he attended several lectures in Chemical Department.


During his stay, he also visited the Museum of Henan Province, ancient capitals such as Luoyang and Kaifeng, and Shaolin Temple. He was very satisfied with teaching and living conditions in Zhengzhou University and expressed the keenest interest in the culture of Central Plains. The visit of Prof. Mathey in Zhengzhou University is of great significance in promoting scientific research in ZZU and in nurturing more talents in chemical field.
